GCSE Press Release – Thursday, 21st August 2025

Students at Bishop Heber High School are celebrating another year of great GCSE results. Over a quarter of all grades achieved by students this year were the top 7-9 grades, and almost nine in every ten students achieved the Government’s benchmark of achieving a grade 4 or higher in both their English and Maths GCSE this summer. These results reflect the dedication, resilience, and ambition of both students and staff. The school continues to set a high standard for academic success, preparing students for bright futures ahead.

Particular congratulations go to Thomas Williams (Farndon) who achieved an incredible ten grade 9s and one grade 8 and Emily Williams (Wigland) whose impressive results included nine grade 9s and one grade 8. Hot on their heels was Poppy Gilbert (Hanmer) with six grade 9s and three grade 8s, Kathryn Taylor (Handley) who achieved five grade 9s, three grade 8s and one grade 7 and Libby Taylor (Malpas) who achieved four grade 9s, five grade 8s. Stanley Burgess (Whitchurch) and Willow Thelwell Wood (Tushingham Cum Grindley) both achieved three grade 9s, five grade 8s and one grade 7. Also celebrating success was Joshua Andrews (Farndon) who achieved a grade 9, six grade 8s and two grade 7s.

In addition to this, 20 Year 11 students also achieved the top grades (9-7) in at least seven subjects. These include: Ursula Archer (Broxton), Lottie Ashton (Marbury), Leo Atkinson (Cholmondeley), Felix Cao (Pentre Broughton), Adam Carr (Peckforton), Harris Cawley (Tattenhall), Nathaniel Connor (Bickley), Henry Craddock (Agden), Sid Faithfull (Malpas), Alexandra Hughes (Malpas), Theo Hughes (Marford), Amia Knott (Gresford), Edie Mathialahan (Malpas), Beth McMullan (No Man’s Heath), Rhys Owen (Farndon), Lucy Robinson (Farndon), Lily-May Scott (Hanmer), Theo Shepherd (Tattenhall) and Victoria Theobald (Whitchurch) and Edi Winter (Malpas).

Performance across all subjects remained consistently strong this year, with several subject areas achieving outstanding results, particularly at the higher levels. Notably, over 90% of all grades awarded in Biology, Chemistry, Drama, Engineering, English Language, French, Media Studies and P.E. were grade 4 or above, an impressive testament to both student dedication and teaching excellence. The Class of 2025 has been an excellent cohort, remembered not only for their academic commitment but also for their meaningful contributions to school life and the wider community. Their enthusiastic participation in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including drama productions, music ensembles, and competitive sports, has left a legacy. The school is also celebrating the achievements of its Year 10 students, who once again sat their English Language GCSE a year early. With over 90% achieving a grade 4 or higher and over one third of all grades 7-9, these results provide a strong foundation for their continued success in Year 11.

Mr. Curry, Headteacher, has praised this year’s GCSE results as “fantastic,” expressing immense pride in the achievements of the Year 11 cohort. “We are delighted and celebrate the strength of results across all subjects,” he said. “Our mission is to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed at Heber, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see students of all abilities securing such valuable qualifications due to their hard work.”

He also commended the students for their dedication, resilience, and positive attitude throughout their studies and examinations, noting that they have brought great credit to the school, their families, and the wider community.

Mr. Curry also extended his sincere thanks to the Year 11 parents for their unwavering support and to the school’s staff for their relentless commitment to student success. “We’re particularly pleased that so many of our students will be continuing their journey with us in our excellent Sixth Form this September, it will be a real pleasure to celebrate their accomplishments and support them as they take the next exciting chapter in their education.”

Mr Balmer, Head of Year 11, praised the achievements of this year’s cohort. “These results are a reflection of the students’ hard work and consistent effort, resilience, and determination to succeed. Over the past two years, they have shown not only academic dedication but a growing maturity in how they’ve conducted themselves. It’s been a privilege to work with them. They’ve continued Heber’s strong tradition of success, and I’m confident they will move forward well-equipped with both excellent qualifications and valuable life skills. I’d also like to extend my sincere thanks to their families for the vital support they’ve provided throughout this journey and to the staff who have taught them.”

Mr Garnham, Director of Sixth Form, added, “Following our recent record-breaking 2025 A- level and BTEC results, we are delighted to now be able to celebrate further success with our amazing Year 11 students. Having received a record number of applications this year, we’re excited to welcome a significant majority of our Year 11s to the Sixth Form, where they will join the Lower Sixth alongside new students from several other local schools. I have no doubt this cohort will continue to flourish and play a key role as senior members of our school community, as they embark on their next stage of learning here at Heber.”
