Courses
GCSE MUSIC (Edexcel) Two Year Course.
Course contents:
Composition (30%) Students compose two pieces of music from within 4 different areas of study.
Practical (30%) Students undertake a practical examination (15%) and perform throughout the course (15%)
Listening and Appraising (40%) Students answer questions on all fours areas of study.
Areas of Study:
1. Structure in Western Classical Music (1600-1899)
2. Changing directions in Western Classical Music from 1900
3. Popular music in context
4. Indian Raga, African Music and fusions
The three aspects of musical knowledge (performing, composing and listening) are related to each other through the Areas of Study.
AS and A2 MUSIC (edexcel)
AS UNIT 1: Performing
During the course, students take part in ensemble performances as well as performing solo.
AS UNIT 2: Developing Musical Ideas
Students work on compositions and on compositional techniques.
AS UNIT 3: Listening and Understanding
This unit is related to chosen areas of study which might include: Piano Music/Music for Large Ensemble/Music for Film and Television
A2 UNIT 4: This unit enables students to specialise in Performing or Composition.
A2 UNIT 5: Performing and Composing
The performance of several pieces and completion of a composition techniques exercise.
A2 UNIT 6: Analysing Music
Students comment on harmony, texture, instrumentation and other musical features in extracts of music they have studied.

Anti-Bullying week was the 22nd ? 26th November this year. As part of the Year 10 GCSE Drama, students visited all Year 8 Drama classes and performed some anti-bullying Theatre-In-Education. |

Sixth Form Drama Visit to Liverpool |
Year 13 students went on a cultural visit to Liverpool in late October. The afternoon was spent looking at the latest editions to the Tate Gallery. This was followed by seeing a new version of ?The Bacchae? by Euripides.
